I've been listening to Tiny Ruins very frequently. Her songs are perfect for lazy weekend afternoons (which I do not happen to have, and so the songs make up for it).
Church was amazing as usual. Today's sermon was on the power of prayer which I have given up hope in recently. Pastor J.D talked about how Jacob wrestled with God, an image of how we can wrestle with God in our struggles. God doesn't withhold blessings but rather provides just enough resistance to test our faith in his goodness. Sometimes prayer doesn't change our circumstances. Instead, it changes the way we relate to Christ and provide us grace to go through those situations. God did not provide Jacob with an army to face Esau, the brother who he had stolen the birthright from. If anything, Jacob was more vulnerable because of his disjointed hip socket. Instead, God provided grace for Jacob to survive the confrontation with Esau.
Like Jacob with his disjointed hip socket which reminded him of his encounter with God, so too will my ankle remind me of the first lesson that God have every taught me: Don't place your identity in your abilities, place it in me instead.
